GOTT&GILZ
Provocation as a necessity
How it all began
It's 2015, and Roman Gilz, an aspiring photographer, receives an unexpected message on Facebook: "Hi, I'm Gordan Nikolic. I admire your photos and want to destroy them." For most people, this would be a shock, an absolute no-go. But for Roman, it was the start of an unusual but fascinating artistic collaboration.
From destroying to creating
The "destruction" turned out to be a creative development. Gordan began to crumble, scratch and redesign Roman's immaculate prints in a variety of ways.
The two artists saw this not as an act of destruction, but of further development. This symbiosis led to an exhibition at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig in 2018, and thus the pXXy PORN brand was born.
The pXXy PORN project
This first collaboration spurred them on to continue leaving their comfort zones and jumping back and forth between different artistic media. They created the pXXy PORN project and years later transformed it into what we know today as GOTT&GILZ.
Provocation as a trademark
With their unconventional depictions of eroticism and the female form, they challenge conventional notions of art and morality. Their work is a provocation that invites us to reflect on the status quo of the artistic world.
Their distinctive method combines digital technology and traditional techniques to create works that are both unique and profound. From religion to sexuality, from power to money, their works do not shy away from controversy.
They are willing to tackle taboos and question what is still considered acceptable in today's society.
Their works stand out for their unique approach to the depiction of eroticism. They have the courage to create an erotic era in art history that was previously absent due to social and intellectual restrictions. Works that are reminiscent of BDSM and fetish depictions, which otherwise tend to be hidden, are shown here with all the emphasis and rigor they deserve. They take certain motifs out of the dirty corner and combine them with universally philosophical questions of humanity. GOTT&GILZ clearly show us that we live in a time and society That allows us to leave the conflict between lust and intellect behind us.
