Hamburg Ballet - Classical ballet and modern forms

Since the 2024/25 season, the German-Argentinean choreographer Demis Volpi has been at the helm of the Hamburg Ballet as its new artistic director. He succeeds John Neumeier, who shaped the ensemble for over 50 years and led it to international renown - with over 1,000 guest performances worldwide.

Volpi brings fresh impulses, new choreographic styles and innovative mediation formats to the stage - and at the same time continues the artistic diversity of Neumeier's work.

The Hamburg Ballet's ballet school, founded in 1978 and one of the most renowned training centers in Europe, remains at the heart of the company. At the Ballettzentrum Hamburg - John Neumeier, the ensemble and young dancers grow together under one roof.
