Hans Petri

In the artist's words:

Hans Petri (* 1963 in Bonn) is a contemporary artist based in Frankfurt am Main, whose work is characterized by an intensive examination of sexuality, obsession and social taboos.

After studying economics, political science, art history, communication science and phonetics at the University of Cologne (1988-1992), he switched to fine art: from 1992-1999 he studied at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main, becoming a master student of Prof. Georg Herold in 2001.

In his works, Petri combines provocative imagery with deliberately irritating motifs. He deconstructs intimacy, mixes quotes from advertising, pop culture and social codes and thus creates not only visual but also reflective spaces of experience.
