The music theater collective Hauen und Stechen was founded in 2012 as a laboratory for moving, contemporary music theater that transcends borders and genres. It initially worked in the cellars of Berlin's Galerie Steiner, where the collective attracted attention with a special performance series: a staging course was played several times for different audience groups on one performance evening, until late into the night. This is where the collective developed its style, which mixes influences from opera, drama, visual arts, philosophy, film and pop culture with performative elements to create an idiosyncratic, wild and opulent theatrical language. The pieces deliberately leave spaces for the performers' impulses and interactions with the audience and take place in an intense spatial proximity.
