The Italian-Swedish singer Anna Clementi grew up in Rome, where she initially studied the flute. After graduating, she trained as an actress at the Centro Sperimentale del Teatro before moving to Berlin. There she met the composer Dieter Schnebel, with whom she then studied experimental vocal music and experimental music theater at the HdK (now UdK). This resulted in many years of collaboration. She also worked for many years in the group "Die Maulwerker", founded by Dieter Schnebel. A particular focus of her work is the music of John Cage, whose works she has performed all over the world. She studied bel canto with Mieko Kanesugi and jazz singing with Kara Johnstadt. Anna Clementi has performed at the most important festivals and has premiered numerous works. Many of these works were composed for her and in some cases developed together with her. She describes herself more as an actress of the voice than as a pure singer. This expresses her diversity, which is always in search of combinations of voice, gesture, language, dance and theater. In Berlin, she performed in the group Theater Ikaro and attended various dance schools, where she devoted herself to contemporary dance. She has worked with numerous composers. Dieter Schnebel, Michael Hirsch, Nicola Sani, Daniel Ott, Rainer Rubbert, Rupert Huber, Iris ter Schiphorst, Laurie Schwartz, Josef Anton Riedl, Alexander Kolkowski, Christian Kesten and Emanuele Casale and many others. She performed a staged version of Arnold Schönberg's "Pierrot Lunaire" in Bochum and Düsseldorf, directed by Urs Troller. At Theater Bielefeld she performed "Euridike" by Iris ter Schiphorst and "Ojota IV" by Daniel Ott. She also premiered "Anna's Wake" by Iris ter Schiphorst in Berlin. "Silence moves" in Berlin and Dresden and "Aung" in Malmö and Copenhagen. There is also a long-standing collaboration with Stepha Schweiger: her opera "The Mark on the Wall" premiered in Berlin in 2017. The opera is based on Virginia Woolf's story of the same name and was dedicated to Anna Clementi. In 2018, she performed as a soloist in the music-theatrical work "Back into Nothigness" by Nuria Gimenes Comas and Laure Gauthier in Lyon and Geneva. The world premiere took place at the TNP Lyon. In 2019, she took on the role of the narrator in Olga Neuwirth's opera "Orlando" at the Vienna State Opera. She was also the narrator in Alexander Moosbrugger's opera "Wind". The world premiere took place at the 2021 Bregenz Festival.
