Jacques Palminger & 440 Hz Trio

The Hamburg musician and actor Jacques Palminger has dedicated himself to jazz from Wonderland for adults with his 440Hz Trio. Palminger breaks with conventional jazz structures. This is not surprising, as we know the man from the humor trio Studio Braun or from the fake band doc film "Fraktus". Now he dances lasciviously through Paris in the sixties, climbs infinite scales to the most beautiful song in the world and sails his ship through a bittersweet sea of hits.

Palminger's haunting lyrics oscillate between wicked comedy and insane drama. He speaks them in German: always beautifully one meter above the ground, always beautifully with a spark of megalomania, always beautifully from an eerie fairytale castle. The 440 Hz Trio, now swollen to a quintet, is Hamburg through and through: former Die Sterne organist Richard von der Schulenburg, bassist John Raphael Burgess, Olve Strelow on drums, as well as Lieven Brunckhorst on sax, flute and singing bowl and Lydia Schmidt on vocals accompany Palminger through dreamwalker soundscapes. Until the audience itself joins in, swaying: "This is my ship on my journey. This is my wind." At least for one jazzed-up evening in Wonderland. (Christa Helbling)
