Jens Kommnick lives in Wremen - a fishing village on the North Sea - and works as a musician, composer, arranger, producer and freelance author. He began enthusiastically learning to play the guitar at the age of 11 and initially oriented himself towards personalities from the singer-songwriter and folk guitarist scene (Reinhard Mey, Hannes Wader, Werner Lämmerhirt, etc.). At the age of 15, he had his first solo appearances as a guitarist in German folk clubs. He also had a 4-year engagement at the Bremerhaven City Theater. At 17, he came into contact with Irish musicians, which sparked his love for Celtic music and continues to this day.

He learned his instruments mainly self-taught. At the same time as his growing fascination for Celtic music, he studied classical guitar and church organ in Cologne and also got to know musicians from the local jazz scene, which brought him into contact with other musical influences that shaped his style. This resulted in various live and studio projects with personalities such as Reinhard Mey, Liam O'Flynn, Werner Lämmerhirt, Klaus Weiland, Gerry O'Connor, Brendan Power, Allan Taylor, Tom McConville, Charlie McGettigan, Helmut Debus, John McSherry, Dónal O'Connor, Kevin Crawford, Cillian Vallely, Peter Kerlin or Frank Bode as well as with groups such as Iontach, Limerick Junction, Liederjan and Lá Lugh. Jens has been involved in over 90 CD productions in a wide variety of acoustic styles (Celtic fingerstyle guitar, traditional & contemporary Irish music, singer-songwriter, singer-songwriter, music for children) and is probably the most sought-after studio musician in this scene nationwide.

In 2012, he was the first and only German in history to become "All Ireland Champion", both as a soloist and as an accompanist. In 2015, he received the coveted "Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik" for his 3rd solo album "redwood". He received this prestigious award for the second time for his highly acclaimed album "Stringed" (2022), which was produced by the audiophile high-end label "Stockfisch Records". Finally, he works as a guitar, bouzouki and whistle teacher at numerous workshops throughout Germany and other European countries.
