If the emotional rollercoaster of life has a sound, then this is it - wild, unpredictable, full of highs and lows. These are the songs of Joi Boi.

With his project, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Chris Scott Pham wants to move the audience with profound lyrics and a gripping mix of indie, pop, jazz and electronica, not just to make them think. His aim is to embrace life against all odds and simply dance. Indie pop that doesn't want to fit into any box.

Joi Boi (formerly Santans) rises in 2023 like the Phoenix from the ashes, or like a fish from the pond. With the "Koi Boi" EP, Joi Boi embarks on a multimedia journey into his own personal wonderland. Inspired by a Chinese legend in which a koi carp becomes a golden dragon, multi-instrumentalist Chris Pham has processed his youth as a PoC in rural Upper Bavaria. 6 tracks accompany Santans on his search for his own identity and represent insights into his coming of age process. With the "Koi Boi" EP, Chris reflects on his previous life, which was suddenly turned upside down 3 years ago. The hour 0 came on 04.04.2020 in the form of a blood sponge in his head, which caused him to fall unconscious one evening. Brain surgery, intensive care unit. Full braking. This experience forced him to confront his greatest opponent: Himself. The result of this time was the EP 'ttt (time to think)'. In it, Chris processed his creative path so far and tried to give expression to the pressure to perform that had haunted him so far.

Joi Boi has become a form of therapy for Chris, without which his hour 0 would have completely overwhelmed him. With the clear goal of giving everything to music, Joi Boi was able to attract attention for the first time and build a loyal community despite the pandemic and no concerts in 2020 through his story and his music, in which soulful ballads meet rousing indie sounds. The single 'Come Undone' (2020), which was released after the reorientation, led to an editorial in the SZ and reports on various music blogs. The second single 'Mesa Verde' (2021) in particular impressed with its driving groove and, together with the third single 'Call It a Night' (2021), was in rotation on notable radio stations such as BR Puls, ego.FM and FM4. This was followed by a TV appearance on regional television and a feature on MTV. By the end of 2022, Joi Boi had released 6 more songs without a label and achieved a total of around 100,000 streams on Spotify and placements on Spotify editorial playlists. In 2023, with the backing of a label and various cultural grants and scholarships, the golden dragon will finally rise.
