The 25-year-old British singer-songwriter Jorja Smith has already spent almost a decade making her mark in the music world with her stunning voice and blistering pen. Hailing from Walsall in the West Midlands, she has collaborated with numerous international stars including Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Stormzy, Burna Boy, Kali Uchis and Popcaan. In 2018, she became the first independent artist to win the coveted BRITs Critics Choice Award, the same year her debut album Lost & Found was released to rave reviews and a Mercury Prize nomination. She also won a BRIT Award for Best British Female Artist in 2019 and was nominated for a Grammy for Best New Artist in the same year.
However, beneath the surface of her success, Jorja Smith was becoming more of a household name in the public eye and was overwhelmed by it all. And so she came up with the title of her long-awaited second album: 'Falling or Flying', an album that is a snapshot of a young woman coming of age, confidently stepping into her light and making music on her own terms. Working with production duo from Walsall, her old friends in DAMEDAME*, it's a sonically wide-ranging album - at times slick and glossy R&B, at others vibrant and hot UK funk, at others intense and raw alternative. Lyrically, she deals with relationships - friendships, romances, the press, the music industry, but most of all the relationship she has with herself.
