The junge norddeutsche philharmonie is an orchestra network in which students from all over Germany come together several times a year for various project phases. The orchestra sees itself as a catalyst for young ideas and the support of new initiatives to strengthen the broad music scene in northern Germany. The organizational team of mainly volunteer students creates a multi-award-winning, non-formal educational program with a variety of orchestra projects and integrated workshops.

The non-profit association's network is open to anyone who wants to actively participate in shaping cultural life, provide new impetus for the concert scene or try their hand at organizing a project. Thanks to the independence, impartiality and authenticity of those involved, new collaborations and concert formats with partners such as the Elbphilharmonie, the MV Festival, the DSO Berlin and the Trickster Orchestra have been created time and again in recent years. Collaborations with Frank Dupree, Anastasia Kobekina, Tianyi Lu and Duncan Ward, among others, stand for the highest standards in the realization of classical projects.

In addition to orchestral projects, pioneering achievements include the DETECT CLASSIC FESTIVAL initiative and the jnpowerhouse workshop series launched in 2021 as a platform for the diverse thematic issues of the young cultural scene.

In 2017, the jnp was named an "Excellent Landmark in the Land of Ideas", nominated for the BKM Prize for Cultural Education in 2018 and awarded the Würth Prize of Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland in 2020. It is under the patronage of former Federal President Joachim Gauck.
