After a whole year off, Katha Pauer finally released another song at the end of August: "Leih mir deine Tränen" is a feature with the band JEREMIAS that nobody would have expected, but makes a lot of sense musically. The song marks the return of Katha Pauer as a musician, who had to cancel her first own tour at the beginning of the year due to her mental health. It was unclear to her whether she even wanted to perform as a singer again.
She recently wrote on Instagram in her format AUS KATHAS KOPF:
"the fear of not being good enough, not cool enough, not successful enough - just not enough, has also distanced me from music." Pressure to succeed, self-doubt and depression forced the artist to do some inner work and - fortunately - led her back to music.
In "Leih mir deine Tränen" ("Lend me your tears"), Katha encourages her counterpart to cry with her usual honesty and emotion, accompanied by piano and cello - a musical world in which her second single "Unter meinem Kissen" ("Under my pillow") also takes place. However, this song sounds much more dramatic, almost a little like film music. Katha sings "After all these years, I couldn't bear it, you wouldn't care about me" and confronts us with a longing that some of us probably know from break-ups: Even if you've broken up, you still want to be significant to the other person. So Katha hides "the last thing I have of you" - a key that symbolizes the last connection between two people - under her pillow. You can hear and see the artist's inner process in her music and her visuals: Katha Pauer is calmer, more reduced, more mature today, with a certain elegance that suits her very well.
You can sense influences from Adele and Billie Eilish paired with a touch of chanson and soul - a sound that is (still) rarely heard in the German-speaking music world. As a support act for JEREMIAS, she will be performing five times in mid-October, presenting a set of almost completely unreleased songs - a foretaste of what we can expect in the coming weeks and months.
