On her new EP, “life lately,” katyadotcom gives us a glimpse into her diary from the past year—six emotional songs tumble toward us, like Polaroids hastily pasted into a scrapbook.

On “25 yrs on earth,” we encountered an artist who, despite heartbreak, has the courage to trust her feelings and intuition. Deep in western Germany, her heart has now found a home, and the cozy, warm mid-tempo groove on the opening track “heavy blankets” serves as the perfect remedy for homesickness for her Austrian homeland.

On “ride my bike,” katyadotcom hops onto the back of the bike of the Essen-based dance-pop aficionados DOTE, and as a listener, you just melt away when her nuanced vocals give way to those of her boyfriend/soulmate Lukas in the second verse. When it clicks, it clicks: “Fuck, I feel so fine,” katyadotcom belts out on “I Miss Me,” reminding us just how important it is to have a safe haven in this crazy world.
