In the artist's words:

katze und krieg are the two artists katharinajej and Julia Dick. 

Both live and work in Cologne. They met in 2007 while studying at the University of Fine Arts in Braunschweig. katze und krieg work on performative interventions in everyday environments in public space, e.g. in supermarkets, office complexes, residential areas and pedestrian zones, always accompanied by an invited audience. 

In their performances, they illuminate and question existing conventions of urban life by acting playfully and beyond prevailing structures and routines. In this way, katze und krieg consistently and courageously investigate the potential of behavior in public space and challenge passers-by and spectators to question their previous ideas and, as far as individual curiosity allows, perhaps even to cross the boundaries of the familiar themselves.  

katze und krieg perform in German-speaking and international spaces as part of various exhibitions and festivals such as the Goethe Institute Bangkok Thailand (2022), Museum Ludwig (2021, unauthorized), Köttinspektionen Uppsala Sweden (2020), Impulse Festival (2018) or Stromereien Zurich (2011). In the summer semester of 2021, they were invited to be guest professors of Performance Studies at Justus Liebig University Giessen.
