The LEIPZIGER SYMPHONIEORCHESTER (LSO) was initially founded in 1963 under the name Staatliches Orchester des Bezirkes Leipzig. This was followed by a change of name, which led to the current name in 2011.
The Leipzig Symphony Orchestra is a non-profit limited company and the only professional orchestra in the districts of Leipzig and North Saxony with a classical symphonic line-up. The orchestra is based in Böhlen, a town on the outskirts of Leipzig, and is institutionally supported by the Zweckverband Kulturraum Leipziger Raum and the Free State of Saxony.
