What is Shibari?
The practice of shibari has its origins in the 1950s in Japan and describes, among other things, the artistic, aesthetic binding of people with (jute/hemp/...) ropes. Many different aspects make this art form interesting - whether as the person tying up, for example, learning the technical know-how, including the various bindings and knots, or as the person being tied up, the feeling of the ropes on the skin and the opportunity to let go and relax in the rope.
About the artist:
Maria Morbid (she/they/-) is a queer Shibari artist. She crossed paths with the ropes at the end of 2019 and has been organizing regular FLINTA community bondage meetings and Shibari workshops in Leipzig since 2021/2022. She is fascinated by the possibilities of creative expression and the exploration of interpersonal dynamics with her counterpart in the rope. Other appealing aspects for her are the opportunity to let go and relax in the hands and ropes of another person, as well as being given the confidence to create this space for herself and the person being tied up. She also offers individual bondage sessions, private lessons, performances and photo shoots.
