LIYO: German-language indie rock that’s finally allowed to be loud

Born in Berlin, based in Cologne—and since June 26, 2026, with a debut EP out whose title is no coincidence. “I Want to Scream Really Loud” isn’t an album title that looks good on posters. It’s a declaration. One that’s been held back for a long time.

LIYO has learned what many women learn: to be small. To be quiet. Not to take up too much space. This EP is the answer to that—six songs that no longer do exactly that. German-language indie pop-rock with NDW urgency, a storm of guitars, and lyrics so direct that they sometimes hurt. When you listen to LIYO, you hear someone who has decided to stop whispering.

On stage for as long as she can remember

LIYO didn’t come out of nowhere. She comes from the stage—and has been there long before she wrote her first original songs. Theater, musicals, the Friedrichstadtpalast: performing isn’t a learned craft for her, but second nature. At age twelve, she wrote her first original plays. What began back then has since evolved into something that’s hard to ignore.

Live, LIYO is loud, direct, and often just a tad too honest. Somewhere between drama, self-deprecating humor, and a clear message, what happens on stage is more than just a concert—it’s a statement.
