Lu Mazen - Künstlerische Fotografie und Ausstellungsmacherin

In the artist's words:

Lu Mazen is a photographer, artist and exhibition organizer who lives in Munich and the Black Forest. Her art deals with themes such as identity, memory and the localization of the everyday. She works with photography, mixed media and video. Her focus is on still lifes and the representation of places and landscapes in the form of still lifes.

Lu Mazen studied philosophy at renowned universities in Germany, Canada and Great Britain (MPhil, St. Andrews). She attended photography master classes at the ICP and the School of Visual Arts in New York. She lived and worked in Seoul, Korea for two years and traveled internationally.

She has received many important awards and residencies at home and abroad for her projects. She has shown her work internationally in exhibitions at renowned festivals and art spaces such as Format/UK, Reclaim/UK, Arles (Projection Fondation Manuel Ortiz) and Kuala Lumpur/Malaysia. She has also exhibited in numerous galleries such as Ingo Seufert in Munich, Litvai in Landshut or Tina Goncalvez in Portugal as well as in many American galleries such as Real Tinsel, Milwaukee, TAC, Oklahoma, Satchel Projects, Studio 9D and Elisabeth Foundation in New York. In Germany, her works are regularly represented in various Gedok galleries and art associations. Her works can be found in private and public collections.

Lu Mazen's project on the transformation of rural regions was exhibited at the Format Festival 2024, was nominated for the Star Award and was shortlisted for the Belfast, Athens and Trieste photo festivals.

Her book "False Moons" was a finalist at the 9th rendez-vous images photo festival in Strasbourg and was published by icon Verlag Munich. She also published the book "Surfacing" there.
