You can hear real friendship. And so the debut album "rocket science" by MAËL & JONAS is not only lively, light-footed pop with a rock influence, but also completely handmade by friends and for friends, which is precisely why it sounds so wonderful. Between pop-punk, which sounds just like the stage, and the next TikTok hit, the newcomer duo sings with their charismatic voices about the most diverse facets of friendship, love and growing up.

A lot is happening with MAËL & JONAS right now, but it all started small. JONAS sang his first songs for his girlfriend in his cupboard at home - "with a sock over the microphone". The two then got to know each other in the local music school band and quickly realized how much music connected them. Although the band split up in the meantime, the friendship remained. And so it was a service of friendship that reunited the duo. MAËL, who is always very excited before live performances, didn't want to take part in "The Voice Of Germany" on his own . So JONAS jumped to his side without further ado. The friends not only secured outstanding feedback, but also made it to the final from a standing start. That was in the 10th anniversary season 2020.

"In the year that followed, we really found our sound," recalls JONAS. The sound of "rocket science" has evolved and is characterized by fresh guitar-driven indie pop, sometimes reminiscent of Blink-182, in the guise of powerful, optimistic compositions that make you turn up the radio. MAËL & JONAS complement each other perfectly: after early influences from classic rock and metal, JONAS ' dedication to the modern reincarnation of the 2000s college punk sound is particularly evident. MAËL follows his taste and complements the music with his preference for tasteful singer-songwriters such as Jack Johnson or Billy Raffoul. The pair only enlisted help for three songs on the album - MAËL & JONAS did the rest themselves, from songwriting to recording and production.

This youthful, fresh sound, which ignites from the very first second, perfectly underscores the duo's story, which speaks of two somewhat different phases of young adulthood. "We want to write songs that kick, especially live." And live, MAËL & JONAS, accompanied by their band of closest friends, are now a well-oiled force, as they proved on their almost sold-out fall club tour. "And no matter how much passion and sweat goes into it, you should never take yourself too seriously. At the end of the day, music is there to bring people together and have fun. The main thing is that people go home after our live show and think: F*ck, that was a good two hours." - With friends for friends.
