In the artist's words:

His career began with three juggling balls, a Christmas present. It was a formative image, the balls flew, the tree fell over and a young boy learned about the difficulties of an artistic life. Two years later, his parents thought a magic box was less dangerous. In fact, the tree stayed standing, a step forward! And at the age of fourteen, Matthias Gietl gave his first performance. With aces up his sleeve, flying clubs, accompanied by cheeky speech, and with success.

When he came of age, he applied for admission to the Magic Circle.
The little boy became a magician. The passion for juggling remained, preferably in the vicinity of festively decorated trees, and mercilessly another one was added: Matthias Gietl defied the admonitions of established spirits and swapped his attendance at grammar school for lessons at Germany's most renowned clown school in Hanover.

After two years, the juggler who performed magic had a clown certificate as a "state-certified comedian" and another problem on the way to his artistic identity. His stay in Hanover led to an encounter with the writer and word acrobat Friedhelm Kändler, and Matthias Gietl discovered the word. It was the last, missing unit to create a whole, a union of the arts, in one person - inspired, irritated, enchanted.
