Martin Creed

Martin Creed (born 1968 in Wakefield, England) is a British artist and musician known for his conceptual and often humorous works. He moves between installation, painting, sculpture, music and performance. He gained international attention in 2001 when he was awarded the Turner Prize for his work Work No. 227: The lights going on and off - an installation in which the lights in an empty room are switched on and off at regular intervals. Creed's art plays with simplicity, minimalism and everyday elements, encouraging the audience to reflect on the perception, meaning and value of art.
