Matthias C. Eitner

In the artist's words:

From 2015 onwards, M.C.E. began to develop painting as a means of expression under the influence of noticeable social changes caused by growing political extremes in Europe and the consequences of digitalization in almost all areas of life. As a child survivor of the Second World War and Fascism in Germany, he repeatedly processes collective defense mechanisms of these social traumas in his paintings in order not to leave emerging repetitive tendencies uncommented. He also addresses manifestations of individual vulnerability and exclusion in order to promote diversity and dialogue in modern, digitalized society and strengthen individual resilience.

The aesthetics of his work, the lightness of his strokes and application of paint, often reminiscent of fashion illustration, enable him to bring drastic narratives to life without losing contact with the recipient. Matthias C. Eitner's working process skillfully combines digital media and analog techniques. Quick-drying paints and coarse brushes demand speed, intuition and improvisation in the creative process and lend his paintings an expressive depth and the effect of spontaneous snapshots.v
