Meret Becker

In the artist's words:

Meret Becker has been working as a film actress and chansonette since she was 17 years old.

In the course of time, she has also developed into an entertainer, musician, composer, music producer and artistic director of her concert programs.

Her self-description is performing artist, sound explorer and reprise clown.

She is self-taught, has received numerous awards, lives in Berlin and France and is a single mother of an adult daughter.

Meret Becker has been composing and writing her own music and songs since around 1995.

She usually keeps her compositions simple, often loop-like, and then layers them sonically.

She often uses subtle, quiet sounds such as music boxes, glockenspiel, flagolet tones, glass harp or cheleste. In addition to mechanical instruments, she does not shy away from electronic processing.

She loves the pauses and the fragility of music. Nevertheless, her compositions can certainly build up into extensive, impressive pieces.

She describes her music as "optical music" because she creates musical images, similar to film music, or "music en miniature", which alludes to the minimalism she cultivates.

Accompanying herself to a large extent will be a great challenge and fun, as she is not a virtuoso on any instrument apart from the singing saw. She uses the instruments she plays rather purposefully and deliberately as timbre. So now alone or in a duet with Max Prosa.
