The Michael Schenker Group (MSG) is a hard rock and heavy metal band founded in 1979 by German guitarist Michael Schenker. Schenker, previously known as the lead guitarist of the Scorpions and UFO, left UFO at the height of their success to start his own musical project.

The debut album The Michael Schenker Group was released in 1980 and was supervised by producer Roger Glover (Deep Purple). It contained hits such as "Armed and Ready" and "Into the Arena", which still enjoy cult status today. MSG changed its line-up several times over the years, but well-known musicians such as Gary Barden, Graham Bonnet, Robin McAuley, Cozy Powell and Chris Glen were part of the band.

In the 1980s, MSG became a permanent fixture on the hard rock scene, especially with albums such as MSG(1981) and Assault Attack (1982). The band later continued under the name McAuley Schenker Group before Schenker became active again under the original band name in the 1990s.

Despite the ups and downs of Schenker's career, MSG remains an influential band with a loyal fan base. Their blend of melodic hard rock and virtuoso guitar playing has inspired generations of musicians.
