Choro is a lively and dynamic musical genre that originated in Brazil at the end of the 19th century. It is characterized by its lively and emotional melodies (from "chorar" = to cry) and playful improvisation.
Choro (often affectionately called chorinho) consists of a colorful mix of African rhythms, European dances and Brazilian folk music and draws inspiration from a variety of musical styles.
The quartet Mondo Chôro continues this tradition of fusion and weaves facets of traditional and contemporary Brazilian music and jazz into a unique symbiosis.
Sometimes comfortingly gentle, then ecstatically rhythmic - sometimes dreamy, yet close to reality, rhythms such as samba, baião or ijexá meet intimate, chamber music moments in an improvisational dialog.
