Murubutu, born Alessio Mariani, first approached hip hop in the early 1990s. As a philosophy and history teacher, he began reflecting on the interaction between school subjects and rap music in 2000. His aim was to make rap an expressive tool for conveying cultural content without losing attention to stylistic refinement. The result was a new musical subgenre: didactic rap. Building on the fusion between rap and storytelling, Murubutu launched a solo project in 2009 entirely dedicated to narrative writing, where classic hip-hop sounds provide the backdrop for lyrics with strong singer-songwriter depth and poetic tones. Murubutu's work features collaborations with numerous artists, including Caparezza, Dargen D'Amico, Rancore, Ghemon, and Giuliano Palma.
