The Neue Männerchor Berlin is a young and dynamic male choir that works on a project basis. The ensemble was founded in 2019 by Adrian Emans and has since realized a number of exciting projects, including concerts, collaborations with renowned orchestras and ensembles such as Voces8 and radio play recordings for Deutschlandfunk Kultur. In May 2022, the Neue Männerchor Berlin made its debut in the Chamber Music Hall of the Philharmonie as part of the Berlin Choir Association's Sunday concert series. Also in May 2022, the choir achieved an "outstanding success" at the Berlin Choir Meeting and was forwarded to the German Choir Competition in Hanover 2023 with 24.6 out of 25 points. There, the choir achieved a "very good success" and 4th place at the top of the German choir scene.
The Neue Männerchor Berlin is made up of vocal students, former music students and singers with many years of choral experience and is put together on a project-by-project basis. The choir's musical focus is on a cappella literature, but choral symphonic projects are also part of the musical program.
The Neuer Männerchor Berlin is a partner ensemble of the Neuer Kammerchor Berlin and has been a registered non-profit association since 2023.
Adrian Emans is choirmaster and conductor. He is the founder and musical director of the New Chamber Choir Berlin, the Charité Choir Berlin and the New Male Choir Berlin.
Adrian Emans began his musical career on the classical guitar, with which he has won national and international competitions. He completed his master's degree in music at the Berlin University of the Arts and in mathematics at the Free University of Berlin. Adrian Emans has attended master classes with Frieder Bernius, Simon Halsey, Stefan Parkman, Michael Gläser, Nicolas Fink and Frank Markowitsch and has conducted choirs such as the Kammerchor Stuttgart, the Vokalakademie Berlin and the Schleswig-Holstein-Festival-Chor.
Adrian Emans has already won several national and international competitions with his choirs and received special prizes for best conductor. Concert tours have taken him to Australia, South Africa, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, the Czech Republic, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Norway and Austria.
From 2011 to 2013, Adrian Emans took over the organization and direction of the children's choir as part of the project "A Fairy Tale of the River" - Modern Youth Opera after J. W. von Goethe, initiated by the Berlin Youth Chamber Orchestra. The project was awarded a prize in the "Kinder zum Olymp" competition.
In 2013, he founded the Charité Choir Berlin. Under the direction of Adrian Emans, the Charité Choir Berlin won second prize ("with very good success") at the German Choral Festival competition in Stuttgart in 2016 and in Nuremberg in 2025; the choir took part in the Berlin Chortreff (state competition of the German Choir Competition) in 2017 "with good success" and in 2022 "with very good success" (4th place) in the mixed chamber choir category. At the international choir competition in Preveza (Greece) in 2019, the Charité Choir sang in two competition categories and won a gold and a silver medal.
From 2014 to 2015, Adrian Emans was employed as an assistant and répétiteur at the Berlin Philharmonie. He accompanied the "Vocal Heroes" project of the Philharmonic's education department under the overall artistic direction of Simon Halsey. From 2016 to 2018, Adrian Emans worked at the Max-Planck-Gymnasium in Berlin Mitte and supported the work of the school choir PlanckTon, 2016/2017 sponsor choir of the RIAS Chamber Choir.
In 2016, he founded the New Chamber Choir Berlin, consisting of music students from the Berlin University of the Arts. Under his direction, the choir was awarded the gold ribbon in the mixed chamber choir category at the Praga Cantat competition in 2017; Adrian Emans was also honored by the jury with a special prize for "Outstanding Conducting". In July 2018, he took part in the World Choir Games in South Africa with the New Chamber Choir Berlin; the choir received a silver medal in the "Champions Competition". In November 2018, Adrian Emans conducted the German premiere of Zuzanna Koziej's "Mass of Trust" as part of the German-Polish project "Zaufanie-Vertrauen". In October 2019, he and the choir won the "Musica Sacra" and "Cori dei Adulti" categories at the Claudio Monteverdi International Choral Festival and Competition and the overall competition in the "Grand Prix" final. He also received the special prize for "Best Conductor". In March 2020 (Covid-19), Adrian Emans and the New Chamber Choir Berlin scored a media hit with the "March Song" as one of the first German split-screen videos. The choir also developed the digital sing-along format #NKCmitDir. At the German Choral Festival in Leipzig in May 2022, the New Chamber Choir Berlin won first prize in both the "Contemporary Choral Music" and "Romantic Secular" categories as well as a special prize as a "Choir with particularly outstanding achievements", which was endowed with a three-day CD production by the Rondeau Production label. After qualifying in the 2022 state competition "with outstanding success" and a special prize for the best interpretation of a Polish piece, Adrian Emans achieved a "very good success" with the New Chamber Choir Berlin 2023 at the German Choir Competition and took 4th place in the mixed chamber choir category.
From 2017 to 2019, Adrian Emans worked as an assistant with the children's choir of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden and has also supported the work of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden's youth choir at irregular intervals since 2018. In 2019, he founded the semi-professional Neue Männerchor Berlin, with which he received an "outstanding success" award at the Berlin Chortreff in 2022 and "very good success" at the German Choir Competition in Hanover in 2023.
As a conductor and rehearser, his work connects him with the Rundfunkchor Berlin and other Berlin choirs and orchestras such as the lautten compagney and Ensemble Modern.
In addition to his artistic work, Adrian Emans is chairman of the music committee of the Berlin Choral Association.
