Under the name nothhingspecial, she writes, produces and sings music that reads like a diary, open, honest, unfiltered and with an emotional impact that resonates for a long time.

nothhingspecial: When insecurity becomes strength

Chrissie Kühl comes from Cologne and has taught herself everything she knows. Vocals, bass, guitar, drums, production. The starting point was a keyboard, a moment at the age of 14 when something just clicked and the feeling that she had finally found something that really felt right. Triggered by bands like Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance and Twenty One Pilots, thanks to her sister, a music career began that is as independent as the sound she creates.

Her first EP somewhere we don't know (2021) was created completely alone, in a 20 square meter apartment in Bonn, with a laptop, a simple interface and 10 euro headphones. No studio, no contacts, no shortcuts. Just her and her music. And yet: the song find me at the bottom of the ocean, just two minutes long, was streamed millions of times worldwide and opened doors for her overnight that she hardly knew existed until then. Her first radio interview on 1LIVE, her first manager, her first contacts in the industry. All at once.

Where Do You Wanna Go? - the next step

With the EP Where Do You Wanna Go? (2023), nothhingspecial proved that the hype was no coincidence. This time with professional support: producer Luis Nussbauer helped her to realize her sound ideas more precisely than ever before. The sound has grown without losing its raw soul. Alternative rock, indie pop and new wave intertwine, carried by Chrissie's dark-colored alto voice, which gives the songs their very own atmosphere.

Songs like Catacombs are the best proof of what happens when someone draws uncompromisingly from their own inner life: a catchy tune that simultaneously unsettles and comforts. "The song embodies a place that is full of contradictions, both mentally and physically," says Chrissie. "Contradictions that I'm constantly dealing with."

It would have been easy to make compromises. German lyrics, features with bigger names, a major in the backing. Chrissie deliberately rejected all that. Her music remains in English, without guests, without tricks. What counts is the feeling behind the songs, not the reach.

"I think for me it's just important that I've said what I wanted to say," she explains. "If someone feels heard or inspired by my songs, then I've already achieved everything." This attitude is rare. And that's exactly what makes them so worth listening to.
