Nilo Crow

In the artist's words:

Nilo Crow (pronounced "Nailo") is a neologism made up of scarecrow and nihilism. The Munich-based musician and songwriter Jonas Schlemme is behind the pseudonym. In 2019, Crow released his debut album Lonesome in Denial online, which he had recorded the previous year with his uncle Matthias Sauthoff on drums. Since then, Kathi Huster on bass and Thomas Schneider on guitar have joined his band.

In 2023, after a long wait, the follow-up album Why Do You Hate Me With Your Love? was finally released on bandcamp and CD - the individual songs are now gradually being released as singles on all popular streaming platforms. The two-part making of the album can also be seen on YouTube.

The exiled Istanbul native Ogulcan Cirpan has recently joined the band on drums after Matthias retired to his well-earned retirement.

The mostly rather gloomy sound draws on a wide variety of sources from Nick Cave & Warren Ellis to Dax Riggs, Nirvana and John Frusciante. The lyrics mostly revolve around classic grunge themes such as doomed love, being an outcast or the dark side of a society trimmed for consumption that eats people like commodities.
