Founded in 1994, the Rock Symphony Orchestra is one of the very first ORSO ensembles. The more than 200 musicians in the choir and orchestra are dedicated to the most impressive crossover. A cross-section of opera, gospel, jazz and rock characterizes the program with which the Rock Symphony Orchestra has been delighting audiences for many years. Internationally renowned opera and rock stars contribute to the sound and vocal power of this musical project in a class of its own.
Rock meets classic - the fascination of crossover music
The term "crossover" describes this crossing of boundaries between two seemingly fundamentally different musical genres, in this case classical music and underground music from the fields of rock, pop and jazz. Music titles by Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Queen and many others are transformed into symphonic tone poems, in which the original material by rock legends such as Jim Morrison, Freddie Mercury, Eric Clapton etc. becomes symphonic thematic material. Pink Floyd meets Igor Stravinsky, Gustav Mahler meets Led Zeppelin, The Kinks meet Maurice Ravel ...
Purely symphonic and dramatic passages can be heard, while in the next moment a huge orchestra and rock band rock towards the finale. The choir suddenly mutates from a rock ensemble to a moving opera choir that shines over the orchestra, only to dive into the groove of the orchestra and the band like a gospel choir at the end.
