International art project
In collaboration with galleries, museums and art associations, Michaela Hanemann is creating a temporary digital network. For a short period of time, she establishes connections between two exhibition venues. During these time slots, participants can visit the connected exhibition with the help of living avatars.
The avatars are real people neutralized as persons by a costume. Like a substitute body for the participants, they can be guided through the exhibition by verbal instructions and enable the participants to discover works of art in a different location, hold conversations and interact as if they were really there. The costume functions as a white screen and serves as a projection surface for the person of the participant(s). This is because his/her face is transferred to the avatar during the virtual visit. It is similar to a ZOOM conversation in which the participants also have a real human body at their disposal to move around the room, touch things, such as leafing through a book or making gestures.
