Ranajit Sengupta

In the artist's words:

Born in 1969 into a music-loving family, Ranajit Sengupta began learning music at the age of five, initially training on the mandolin. He gave his first performance on All India Radio at just six years old and released his first recording by the age of ten.

He took up the sarod at 18 under Ustad Dhanesh Khan and later trained with Ustad Aashish Khan, while also attending workshops with the legendary Ali Akbar Khan. A graduate of Rabindra Bharati University in Kolkata, he went on to serve there as a lecturer.

An award-winning artist, he has received honors from All India Radio and the Government of India, and was named “Best Talent of the Year” by HMV in 1992. Since 1994, he has performed widely across Europe and remains an A-grade artist with All India Radio and Doordarshan.
