In the artist's words:

The Schola Cantorum Leipzig was founded in 1963 by the music teacher Reinhardt Syhre, was active at the opera house from the end of the 1960s and also at the Gewandhaus from 1973 on Kurt Masur's initiative. Today, around 300 children, teenagers and young adults sing and make music in the early music education courses, in the pre-school and sparrow choirs, in the children's choir, the preliminary classes of the concert choirs and in the internationally renowned girls' and women's choir of the city of Leipzig.

The choirs perform up to 50 concerts every year in Leipzig and far beyond. This makes the Schola Cantorum one of the largest and most active choir formations in central Germany, an important educational institution and an ambassador for Leipzig as a city of music.
