In the artist's words:

Sinfonietta 104 was founded with the idea of "creating an orchestra especially for school musicians, characterized by weekly rehearsals and regular concerts at the end of each semester". This was stated in the invitation to the second semester of Sinfonietta 104 in 1994.

Founded as a student initiative, the orchestra still thrives today on the voluntary commitment of its members and unites student teachers from all semesters of the HfMT Cologne and advanced amateur musicians in one orchestra.

In the teacher training program, we are challenged in a wide variety of areas, both pedagogically and artistically. The Sinfonietta 104 offers us the opportunity to work continuously at a high artistic level within the diverse everyday life of our studies. We present the results of our rehearsals at the end of each semester in the university's concert hall.

As an orchestra, we decide democratically on all important issues such as artistic direction, program design and our soloists, who often come from our own ranks. The majority of the organization is currently carried out by five orchestra members, although they receive support from their fellow musicians in many aspects, such as the design of the concert posters. The fact that all orchestra members are actively involved in decision-making processes and are therefore jointly responsible for the success of the Sinfonietta creates a productive and collaborative atmosphere.
