Sonja Edle von Hoeßle

Sonja Edle von Hoeßle's sculptural work consistently focuses on steel as a material and on the line as a central form-forming principle. Her sculptures are created from square steel rods that are guided through the space in continuous, moving lines. Linear and circular elements, curves and edges alternate. The line is often led back to itself, sometimes it also has a clear beginning and an open end.

Volume is not built up massively, but developed as a spatial drawing. The line describes arcs, changes of direction and tensions, but always remains in motion and forms open structures that constantly change with the viewer's position. Construction and statics are precisely calculated, but recede into the background in favor of dynamics and rhythm and retain a perceptible lightness.

Light and shadow become active components of the works and extend the line into the space in an immaterial way. Edle von Hoeßle's sculptures understand sculpture as a three-dimensional line that makes movement, balance and spatial perception directly tangible.

The work of the winner of the Kunstverein Bayreuth Art Prize has been shown in numerous national and international exhibitions as well as in public spaces.
