Stefanie John

In the artist's words:

You could call her an ambassador for the cello: The Berlin cellist Stefanie John explores the possibilities of her instrument to surprise and touch listeners and to make experiences audible in music. She performs as a soloist with her self-built five-string cello or the campanula - a cello-like resonance instrument with 16 additional strings - and can also be heard in duos, ensembles and bands of various styles. After studying at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music, she consciously decided against a classical orchestral career and developed her own artistic path.

In addition to her concert activities, she works as a studio musician with singer-songwriters, for film music and realizes commissioned musical productions, including the soundtrack Cornwall Tunes. In 2006, she created her custom-built five-string cello in collaboration with Helmut Bleffert; the discovery of the campanula led her to free improvisation and later to her own compositions.

With Cello crossing! (debut album 2014, continuation 2018 and concert series) Stefanie developed a format that connects different musical worlds and creates special listening experiences with changing guests.
