Whether it's Parcels, Royel Otis or Tame Impala - Australian indie bands often have a seemingly natural simplicity and relaxed attitude that sounds like sunshine on your skin and carefree time. The Teenage Dads, a four-piece indie band also from Down Under, spread the same vibe, combining contemporary indie rock with influences from 80s new wave. Jordan Finlay, Vincent Kinna, Angus Christie and Connor McLaughlin discovered their shared love of moving indie pop back in their school days and joined forces as a live band. In 2018, their shared indie and electro-pop sound appeared in long form for the first time when The Teenage Dads released their debut album "Potpourri Lake". Unlike many other bands whose sound is based on the 80s, the group of four musicians from Melbourne don't seem to be trying to sound like they're from the past - instead, they consciously do their own thing and embed 80s influences in electronic drums and modern elements. On the current album "Majordomo" from 2024, the sound takes on a youthful, boisterous note; songs like "Boyfriend" or "Speedracer" sound like coming-of-age and summer road trips with playful synths and are reminiscent of bands like Hippocampus, MGMT or Two Door Cinema Club. From the very beginning, live music has been the focus for The Teenage Dads - so it's no wonder that they have blossomed into a legendary live band over the years. In honor of their second album "Majordomo", the quartet will soon be going on tour again - in September of this year!
