The Telescopes

In the artist's words:

The British band The Telescopes was founded in 1987. The band's line-up has been in constant flux ever since, with between 1 and 20 musicians involved in a recording. The only constant is Northumbrian-born Stephen Lawrie, composer and founder of the band.

Originally signed to Cheree Records, the band later moved to What Goes On Records and regularly reached the top of the indie charts; a deal with Creation Records then led to greater mainstream success. The Telescopes' music knows no rigid boundaries, encompassing many genres and following its own course, always guided by Stephen Lawrie's inspiration.

Over time, The Telescopes' music has proven to not only stand up to repeated listens, but also to reveal something new with each listen - a common thread that runs through a highly influential body of work spanning more than three decades. The Telescopes have been cited as an influence on many artists of all genres around the world.
