All new. That's the name of Tigeryouth's upcoming album. It is the first with a band line-up and will be released in September 2025.
Tigeryouth, that's 2025 Riccarda Belitzki (drums), Simon Bäumer (bass) and Tilman Gottfried Zick (vocals, guitar). The latter founded the project in 2010, played over 600 concerts solo until 2020 and released three studio albums on the Hamburg label Zeitstrafe: Leere Gläser (2014), Tigeryouth (2016) and Schmuck (2019).
Tigeryouth has been back on stage since the end of 2022. There, the band tried out new songs, which eventually found their way into the Heavy Kranich Studio. Under the direction of Phil Meyer, "Alles neu" took shape. Also on board in December 2022 and January 2024: Guido Knollmann and Jan-Dirk Poggemann from the Donots, who played a decisive role in shaping Tigeryouth's sound. The result is an album that finally does away with the labels "acoustic" or "singer-songwriter" - and instead delivers punk with a band's soul. Not an ego trip with backing musicians, but an audibly cohesive unit.
Simon Bäumer's bass sounds present and multi-faceted: sometimes organ-like, sometimes distorted and driving, then again heavy and clear in the quiet moments. The songs are driven by Riccarda Belitzki's drumming, which seems to hold together effortlessly and sets the dynamics. An electric guitar lays over it, sometimes in driving chord sequences, sometimes plucked slightly distorted. The acoustic guitar only makes a brief appearance - instead, Tilman Gottfried Zick's voice builds the bridge between the first three albums and Alles neu.
Reinforced by melodic guitars from Guido Knollmann, Tigeryouth confidently opens a new chapter in eleven songs and a good 30 minutes.
The title track takes a critical look at the retreat into the private sphere and clearly positions itself against it. With lines like "Will you join me on the road - what are you waiting for?", Tigeryouth calls for action.
The band takes a stand: left-wing, anti-fascist, against resignation and pessimism about prosperity. Instead, a defiant, militant hope shines through in the songs.
There is also room for very personal themes: depression, hospital stays and therapy. Tigeryouth practises catharsis without tipping over into self-pity.
The heaviness is lightened by dry humor, declarations of love for coffee at rest stops or the bouncer tip about the end of a night behind the bar. There's even a Klaus Lage moment or a Rio Reis quote in between.
A StartNext campaign is running from June 18 to July 30, with which Tigeryouth wants to make the release of Alles neu possible via crowdfunding - just as the album deserves: on vinyl, flanked by a music video for the title track, professional band photos and promotional work. On startnext.de/all-new there are numerous DIY thank-you gifts for pre-ordering the record: self-made bracelets, tie-dyed shirts, a Tigeryouth Riesling, living room concerts and tickets for the four release shows in September.
For Tigeryouth, DIY doesn't mean doing everything alone - it means making it possible together.
