Tombs Beats is a connector and a lone wolf, a creative mind and a pragmatist, a docile man in the background and an extravagant stage hero at the same time. The exiled Berliner with a background in Rostock is always a producer and sometimes a rapper, a solo artist, a stylist, a one-man sampling machine, a fellow musician; "too underground for 'Deutschrap Untergrund'" and yet plays a leading role in albums that - like Pöbel MC's recent "Dr. Pöbel" - climb to the top of the German hip-hop charts. Tomb's beats are bad-tempered, sample-ridden Memphis trap and bristly, crackling G-funk with retro charm - mostly snotty and wicked, rarely melancholic and melodic, but always surreally urgent and remarkably unlimited. It wasn't long ago that Tombs chased his very first producer album through the pipes of Audiolith Records into the world - and yet the second LP release is due in spring 2025.
