In the artist's words:

The University Orchestra of Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf was founded in 1987 by music-loving students and has been led by Academic Music Director Silke Löhr ever since. The orchestra quickly became a well-known ensemble in the city and performs regularly in the Tonhalle Düsseldorf as well as in important concert halls and churches in North Rhine-Westphalia. The ensemble has also performed in renowned concert halls outside NRW, including the Leipzig Gewandhaus, the Warsaw National Philharmonic and the Tonhalle Zurich.

In performances of large oratorio works in collaboration with the UNICHOR Düsseldorf, the musicians are regular guests in the Tonhalle Düsseldorf as well as in numerous churches in Düsseldorf and the surrounding area.

In September 2005, the musicians performed in Beijing and Shanghai and gave concerts in Tokyo and Shizuoka as official ambassadors of the state of NRW during the Germany-Japan Year. Concert tours have taken the HHU University Orchestra to numerous European countries as well as Israel, China and Japan.

In 2023, the orchestra celebrated its 35th anniversary in the Tonhalle Düsseldorf.
