Vargkvint

Inspired by the sea, forests and folklore, Vargkvint is the music project of Stockholm-based multi-artist Sofia Nystrand. With her haunting melodies, Swedish vocals and a playful approach to arrangements and instruments, Vargkvint's music moves skillfully between the genres of modern classical, folk, ambient and experimental music.

After her early works attracted the attention of sound pioneer Nils Frahm, she was invited to record an album at the renowned Funkhaus Studio in Berlin together with her long-time collaborator Jakob Lindhagen and Grammy-winning sound engineer Antonio Pulli ("The Joker", "Chernobyl"). The album "Månens hav" - inspired by the mystical and god-like appearance of the moon, the technology that drives the space race, its connection to femininity and its non-existent oceans - was released in 2023 on Frahms' label LEITER.

The follow-up album "Jorden kallar" draws on Vargkvint's connection to the earth, the forest and Scandinavian folklore and explores how these ideas collide with concerns about the climate crisis. Once again recorded at LEITER Studio with Lindhagen and Pulli, the album explores the world of folk music with the all-female vocal quartet LYN.

After her early works caught the attention of Nils Frahm and his manager Felix Grimm she was invited to record a full-length album in his renowned studio in Funkhaus, Berlin, together with her constant collaborator Jakob Lindhagen and Grammy-awarded engineer Antonio Pulli (The Joker, Chernobyl). The album "Månens hav" - inspired by the mystical and godlike entity of the moon, the technology powering the race to space, its connection to femininity and its oceans that really doesn't exist - was released on Frahm's label LEITER in 2023.

The follow up "Jorden kallar" is rediscovering her connection to the earth, the forest, Scandinavian folklore, and how these ideas collide with the worry for the climate crisis. Once again recorded in the LEITER studio together with Lindhagen and Pulli, the album explores the realms of folk music together with the all female vocal quartet LYN.
