Vinyl-terror & -horror

In the artist's words:

VINYL -TERROR & -HORROR is a collaboration between Camilla Sørensen (born 1978) and Greta Christensen (born 1977), both graduates of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in 2007/2008. The project focuses on the relationship between objects and sound. It is presented in various forms - as an installation, sculpture, compositional work or in the form of live concerts. The works - whether presented as installations or concerts - use sound to create a narrative that always relates directly to the medium being played or the specific situation of the presentation. The sculptural works incorporate a variety of different materials, while the live concerts focus exclusively on records and record players. Characteristic of her record player performances and her compositional work in general is the sculptural approach to the vinyl medium. The record player itself and the vinyl material serve as compositional elements that lead to unexpected results. Vinyl -terror & -horror use manipulated records - including broken, baked, collaged "cut-ups" - on turntables with multiple cartridges. They blend a variety of culturally diverse musical genres in a non-hierarchical mix, including classical, opera, folk, pop, spoken word, Hammond organ interpretations and sound effects from horror films
