Weckmann Consort

The Weckmann Consort was founded by the musician and organ builder Lea Suter, together with Juan Gonzalez Martinez (baroque trombone). The musicians work with the original sound of historical instruments. Between sacred and secular music, they move entirely in the tradition of the city musicians at the time of their namesake and Hamburg Jakobi organist Matthias Weckmann. The Collegium Musicum, founded by Weckmann in 1660, gave him the opportunity - presumably in connection with his attainment of Hamburg citizenship - to perform "the best things from Venice, Rome, Vienna, Munich, Dresden &c." every Thursday in the Domrempter. (Joh. Mattheson 1740).

The Weckmann Consort plays various repertoire with historical organs in churches and crypts, depending on the occasion also with harpsichord. The artists strive for a lively musical practice, adorned with ornaments and glosses based on the improvisational practice of the time. Concert tours have taken the ensemble to important historical organs in northern Germany and Switzerland.
