Meeting friends in the café? We do that all the time. We also work in the café from time to time. But alone, just to read, without an appointment or commitment? It somehow happens far too rarely. But we want to change that, so we've put together a list of cozy cafés in Munich where you can have a relaxing time on your own.

Comfortable, more comfortable, the armchairs at Café Jasmin: the interior of this traditional café not only catapults you straight back to the 1950s in terms of aesthetics, but is also infinitely more comfortable to sit in than any hip café with an industrial design. Coupled with the always delicious selection of cakes, this place is an absolute heartfelt recommendation from us for an afternoon with a thick book.

Without any plush, but with at least as much of a feel-good atmosphere, gangundgäbe should not be missing from our tips. The café in Kapuzinerstraße is bright and friendly: if you can't find a seat at one of the small tables, you can easily make yourself comfortable on one of the stools at the window front - perfect for reading! Of course, the excellent coffee served here should not be neglected.

In this store, the name really does say it all: the small bookshop is not just a store, but also a café. This makes it easy to do two of the best things at the same time. If you can't make up your mind from the wide selection of novels and non-fiction books, you will be given detailed and very friendly advice - and can make yourself comfortable afterwards with coffee and homemade cake!

Making yourself comfortable with your favorite book is also a great idea in Schwabing: at Holzkranich. Not only does it serve wonderful breakfasts, snacks, burgers or salads and even cheese fondue, it also has a comfortable old sofa and a few seats by the large window front. We recommend the Kaiserschmarrn pancakes with homemade apple compote for the perfect afternoon.

Small, cozy, unagitated: Tante Emma Bistro in Schwabing is the opposite of hip and stylish. And that's exactly what makes this small café so appealing. This is reflected in the menu: you won't find any fancy, overpriced dishes here. Incidentally, it is open every single day of the week from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. - well, if that's not an invitation to linger...

Small but nice: welcome to "Die Waldmeister" in Maxvorstadt. This small café has been impressing us for many years with its simple but delicious breakfast menu. And we think so: You can easily linger a little longer here. It's particularly good to do this at the window seat - grab a cushion, enjoy a coffee and delicious cake and make yourself comfortable.

A very, very special café can be found in the Westend: the Marais shop-café is - as the name suggests - a café and store in one. (Almost) everything you find here can also be bought: Furniture, jewelry, children's things and even cosmetics. Thanks to the 1920s inventory, we always feel a bit like we're in an antique store with a very high feel-good factor.

Pack your book and head to Café Lozzi! This place in Glockenbach definitely belongs on our list of tips because it's just wonderfully cozy here too. Next to the window seats, you'll find armchairs and an old plush sofa. In addition to the good food (we only say regional organic fries!), we are particularly impressed by the emphasis placed on regionality and sustainability. So go ahead: bring a book, order a hot drink and enjoy.

Do you like to grab a bite to eat at Gans Woanders when you go for a walk? We can well understand that - but it's also definitely worth sharing. Yes, even on your own: The little house not only serves delicious food and drinks, but also comfortable benches. If you like to combine reading with vegetarian or vegan soul food, the Deli Kitchen in Obergiesing is the place for you. Find a cozy spot and treat yourself to a slice of carrot cake with your book, because it's really good here. If you prefer something hearty, you can always look forward to sage gnocchi, quiche, penne rigatte and sandwiches at the Deli Kitchen. Everything is vegan or vegetarian across the board.

The prices in Munich are comparable to most major cities in Germany, but we have put together something for every budget. And a coffee or a piece of cake is usually still affordable.
2. can I bring a book or laptop to read in all cafés in Munich?
We have a list of cafés for you where we have had good experiences with this. In most cafés this is generally not a problem, but some have put up signs to this effect. In general, you should just make sure that you don't take up a table for longer at peak times, as most restaurants will be grateful for this.
3. are these all the cafés in Munich where you can read well?
