Doing good at Christmas in Munich
At Christmas, we should not only enjoy the festive atmosphere, but also take the opportunity to do good and show humanity. Bringing joy to others is often even more fun than receiving presents ourselves. The pre-Christmas period offers a wonderful opportunity to make a conscious effort for other people, to show a willingness to help and to give joy. Our city of Munich offers great and above all diverse opportunities to do good. It doesn't matter whether you want to help the environment or prefer to pursue humanity. There is something for every good cause. 🔔😉
Christmas sausage - donation day
On 21.12.2023 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., you can not only snack on (vegan) currywurst at "Alles Wurscht", but also do good at the same time. There is no better mix. Because 25% of the daily turnover is donated. In other words: the more currywurst you eat, the more proceeds go to a good cause. The money raised from this great campaign will go to the Munich Kältebus and the UN WORLD FOOD PROGRAM.
The Munich cold bus provides Munich's homeless with warm food and essential items during the cold months. These are then given to the homeless in small parcels.
The UN WORLD FOOD PROGRAM is not only active in Munich, but also provides food to families and children in 120 different countries who would otherwise have to go to bed hungry.
Desire tree
Children's heartfelt wishes can be fulfilled at the Kulturwunschbaum.
With an online donation or at the real tree, you can make cultural and leisure experiences possible for children from low-income families. The KulturRaum explains how this works:
The KulturRaum München association's popular KulturWunschBaum will once again make children's eyes light up this year. To this end, the association collects wishes from children from numerous social institutions in its network, which are written and painted on hearts. The wish hearts can be picked online and fulfilled.
The KulturWunschBaum reaches children who are disadvantaged in terms of education, health or social integration, for example. The cultural and leisure activities donated help to improve the situation of children, increase equal opportunities and promote their development.
This year, 700 wishes in the genres of theater, concert, cinema, museum, sports and zoo were collected.
If you prefer to pick a real heart from the tree and get the gift yourself, you can do so at the following locations:
1st Kuchentratsch Café, Theresienhöhe 30 (from November 20)
2nd Munich Theater for Children, Dachauer Straße 46 (from November 17)
Donors then return the tickets for leisure and culture in a self-designed gift envelope at the respective location. Gifts can be handed in until December 17.
Rent a Christmas tree instead of buying one
For the sake of the environment, it would be a wonderful idea to rent rather than buy the Christmas tree for your living room this year. Why? So that it doesn't get thrown away after a week. There are so many possibilities...

Rent Christmas trees instead of buying them
Read the whole articleSchwabinger Tor: Wishing angel
At Schwabinger Tor you also have the opportunity to play the Christmas angel and fulfill a wish for others. The Schwabinger Tor initiative supports the following organizations:
Pfennigparade: The Pfennigparade Foundation's barrier-free social housing is located very close to Schwabinger Tor. People with disabilities live here who want nothing more than to graduate from school, be able to work or live independently in their own home - Pfennigparade supports and assists the tenants with disabilities and their relatives with financial, legal and personal problems.
The Münchner Kindl-Heim: The Münchner Kindl-Heim in Harlaching can look back on over 100 years of history. The curative child and youth welfare facility offers help and services for children and young people whose care, education and upbringing can no longer be guaranteed in the family, either temporarily or for a longer period of time. The aim is, where possible, to support the families through inpatient and semi-residential family support measures so that the children and young people can be returned to their families if possible.
Schwabinger Tor explains the concept as follows:
1. come to Schwabinger Tor (by streetcar line 23, by car, there is plenty of parking in our very large underground parking garage, on foot or by bike).
2. look for our decorated Christmas trees with silver baubles - you will find one directly at the streetcar station and one in the south of Schwabinger Tor in front of the "Munich White" store.
3. take one of the transparent Christmas baubles from the tree. (You can also take it home with you).
4. open the ball and take out the wish list.
5. bring the gift you have wrapped, to which the number and wish list are clearly attached, to the "Riedmair " bakery branch at Schwabinger Tor (right next to the streetcar station) by 16/12/2013 . All gifts will be collected there before they are handed over.
Invite a friend
How about adding one or more people to the family dinner at Christmas? Not everyone celebrates Christmas and automatically has family plans on 24.12. So wouldn't it be really nice to invite a friend who doesn't (or can't) celebrate Christmas to Christmas Eve to spend the evening together? This usually turns into a really great experience for everyone involved and nobody has to be alone on Christmas Eve.
Mail with a heart
Are you sometimes lonely too? You are definitely not alone. Everyone gets this feeling sooner or later. Some more and some less. In lonely moments, you are all the more pleased to receive kind and heartfelt words. "Post mit Herz" makes it possible to send letters to lonely people and show them that we are thinking of them. Join in, it's really easy:
First you register on the Post with Heart website. Then you can get yourself a pretty card and start writing. The main thing is that it comes from the heart! Then all you have to do is drop your Post mit Herz in the letterbox and the rest is taken care of. Zack, YOU have made someone happy.
Give warmth
At UNO-Flüchtlingshilfe, you can donate heat packs to people in need. You are free to choose the amount you donate. Whether it's just a little support or a large package is up to you. No matter what you choose, you are helping people in need. And after all, that's the most important thing!
PS: Of course, it's also important to do good next year and not just at Christmas time. 👇
