DOK Leipzig 2024: a week full of cinematic discoveries
Are you ready for a week of packed film experiences? From October 28 to November 3, 2024, Leipzig will once again be transformed into a hotspot for film fans when DOK Leipzig, the International Festival for Documentary and Animated Film, opens its doors. Whether you're a fan of moving documentaries, enthusiastic about imaginative animated films or curious about new perspectives and stories from all over the world - there's something for everyone here!
7 days - hundreds of films throughout the city
DOK Leipzig is more than just a festival, it is an event that brings the whole city to life. Films are shown in countless cinemas in Leipzig throughout the day for seven days - from small, independent cinemas to large venues, everything is included. The atmosphere is electrifying: you can always hear snatches of conversation in the streets about the latest films you've seen, and in the cinemas there is a palpable sense of anticipation for the next discoveries.
The 200 or so films shown come from all over the world, many of them celebrating their world premiere here. The selection ranges from short animations to long documentaries that address current political issues or tell fascinating life stories. Whether you are interested in human rights, environmental issues, social topics or simply outstanding filmmaking - at DOK Leipzig you will find films that move and inspire you.
International competitions and curated film series
The international competitions are particularly exciting, with the best films in various categories competing for the coveted Golden and Silver Doves. The variety of topics and genres is impressive: from political documentaries and personal stories to artistically sophisticated animations, everything is represented. But there is even more to discover - in addition to the competitions, the festival presents several curated series that delve deep into film history or thematic focuses. Here you can immerse yourself in the works of important filmmakers or take a look at new trends in animated film. Especially cool: The Animation Night, which blurs the boundaries between art, film and club culture.
You can find and filter all films in the festival program from October 10 to discover exactly what interests you most. The entire program can be found here: DOK Leipzig Program.
Q&As, talks and master classes - meet the makers behind the films
A real highlight at DOK Leipzig are the Q&As after the screenings. Here you have the opportunity to talk directly with the filmmakers or protagonists. You can ask questions that were on your mind during the film, and who knows, you might find out exciting background stories or gain unexpected insights into the production. In addition to the Q&As, there are also talks and master classes that deal with current topics from the world of film and beyond. You can take part in discussions about the political dimension of documentary film or learn from renowned filmmakers how they realize their artistic visions.
DOK New territory - A step into new worlds
If you fancy not only watching films, but also diving into digital worlds yourself, you should definitely check out DOK Neuland. Eleven exciting extended reality works await you here, from VR and AR to 360° films. And the best thing about it: admission is free!
