Spring is here! And that means flea markets are back on the agenda for our weekend plans. It's always nice to rummage around and often unexpectedly get hold of great old pieces for your own four walls or closet. You can find out which flea markets in Munich are always great for bargain hunting here.

After a two-year break due to the coronavirus, Bavaria's biggest flea market is back: every spring, this year on April 30, the giant flea market takes place on the Theresienwiese. The haggling starts as early as 7 am. The name "giant flea market" says it all: there's nothing here that doesn't exist, as there are around 2,000 vendors at the start. And if the weather is good, up to 80,000 visitors are expected. So if you want to get your hands on the best bargains and most beautiful treasures, it's best to set your alarm clock very early.

All Munich residents should know by now that Bahnwärter Thiel is much more than "just" a club. The Krims & Krams flea market has also been an integral part of the Bahni program for years. You can buy a colorful mix of bits and bobs: fashion, music, costumes, art, props and other treasures (only real fur is prohibited!). And because we're in the Bahnwärter, of course we can't do without music - there's always a relaxed DJ on the side and of course there's plenty of drinks and food too. So you can easily stay a few hours longer - this spring we're starting for the first time on Sunday, April 10 - you can find all the information here!

If you live in Munich, you (almost) can't avoid the mountains. Hiking, climbing, ski tours and so on - almost everyone seems to enjoy doing sports in the mountains at the weekend. There's just one small catch: unfortunately, outdoor clothing and equipment is often very expensive. Second-hand shopping could be the solution. The DAV's Alpine flea market, which takes place twice a year, is a great way to do this. In March, the sellers offered their treasures for the first time on the Sugar Mountain site in Sendling - the next edition of the Alpine flea market awaits you in the fall, where you can stock up in time for the winter season.

If a visit to the flea market at the weekend is too early for you and you would rather spend your Saturdays or Sundays doing other things, the Midnightbazar might be a good alternative for you: Because here, as the name suggests, people sell and buy at night. Around 100 flea market exhibitors, a cozy beer garden, food trucks and good music await you at this market in the arena and in the large courtyard of the Backstag. So that you don't have to worry about the indoor area, the room plan has been adapted to the pandemic times: The 2500m² area now has extra wide aisles and large stand areas so that you can keep enough distance.

Admittedly, Daglfing may not exactly be the hub of Munich, but the trip "out" on the S-Bahn is worth it - because every weekend, on Fridays and Saturdays, there is a flea market at the trotting track. Here you can get hold of collectors' items and antiques as well as children's and babies' things and lots of toys. Big advantage: it doesn't matter if it rains here. Although the flea market takes place outside in the open-air area, there is also the so-called "Antikhaus", where you can browse under cover, as well as a restaurant and café to help you bridge any short breaks in the rain.

To be fair, one thing first: whether, when and how the flea market at Grünspitz will continue will only be clarified in the near future. Therefore, we cannot yet recommend this flea market for the coming season with one hundred percent certainty, but because it has always been so much fun in the past, the flea market at Grünspitz simply cannot be missing from our collection. Before Corona, there was always something on offer there from March to November: No matter whether you wanted to take books, clothes, children's things or anything else home with you. In contrast to other flea markets, it's incredibly practical: for a small donation of 5 euros, you can borrow a beer table set, so you don't have to lug anything around if you want to sell!
