On 17.09.24, Kurt Tallert, who has been shaping the German hip-hop scene as Retrogott for over two decades, will be reading from his debut novel "Spur und Abweg" at Hansa48 Kiel.
A German-Jewish family, a father who survived and the traces of a lost identity - in "Spur und Abweg", Kurt Tallert confronts the story of his family's persecution. What is special about his fate and his perspective on German history is that Kurt Tallert is now 37 years old, and yet his father was persecuted by the Nazis as a young man as a so-called half-Jew. Harry Tallert was 58 years old when his son was born. And dies twelve years later. What remains are memories, notes, letters and photos. Traces of a damaged life. Kurt Tallert follows these traces. They lead him to the Bad Honnef of his childhood, on countless regional trains across Germany and finally to his Jewish great-grandmother Berta - and to the question: What does all this actually have to do with me?
A declaration of love to a traumatized father, eloquent, moving and radically intimate. Kurt Tallert shows us that remembering or forgetting is not a choice for everyone.
Kurt Tallert was born in Bad Honnef in 1986 and studied German and Hispanic studies in Aachen and Santiago de Chile. Under the stage name "Retrogott", he has been shaping the German hip-hop scene as a rapper, DJ and producer for more than twenty years and has released numerous albums. 'Spur und Abweg' is his literary debut and was published by Dumont Buchverlag on 23.02.2024.
