1st symphony concert
DETLEV GLANERT (*1960): Brahms Fantasy. Heliogravure for orchestra
WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART (1756-1791): Symphony in C major K. 551 ("Jupiter Symphony")
JOHANNES BRAHMS (1833-1897): Symphony No. 1 in C minor op. 68
Glanert describes his work as Heliogravure in the subtitle, referring to an old technique in which photographs were painted over using a chemical process - an original material is preserved and yet transformed by the artist. Glanert's source material is the first bars of Brahms'
Symphony No. 1 - and so it is only logical to end the program with this very work.
Mozart's last symphony was given its nickname "Jupiter" in the 19th century; according to legend, because of its "divine perfection".
