Wine spring around the Wappenbrunnen fountain in May: regional arts and crafts on Ludwig-Beck-Platz on Mother's Day

Following the successful premiere of their special wine and city festival concept last year, the organizers of Family & Friends e. V. from Berlin are continuing to develop their format. Together with small wineries from popular German wine regions as well as culinary and arts and crafts offerings from Berlin and the surrounding area, the Weinfrühling will return to the idyllic Ludwig-Beck-Platz from May 8 to 10, 2026.

New this year is the "Art on Sunday" format, which offers regional artists a special stage. On Mother's Day, they present their handmade works and let visitors look over their shoulders as they work.

This concept creates space for everyone involved and offers visitors to the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district the opportunity to spend the Mother's Day weekend in a varied and enjoyable way.

Mother's Day is art on Sunday

Mothers are many things at the same time: guides, comforters, keepers of memories - and sometimes true superheroes in everyday life. Reason enough to spoil them on Mother's Day: with good food, a glass of wine and regional art.

Art as an adventure

"Art is an adventure into an unknown world that can only be explored by those willing to take risks." This sentence comes from the painter Mark Rothko. For him, art was a deeply personal and emotional process that required courage. Art is not just an object to look at, but an experience that awakens feelings. Viewers must also be prepared to enter this unknown world.

This is precisely why Family & Friends likes to invite people to its lovingly curated arts and crafts markets in Berlin. Enabling encounters in public spaces beyond museums, showing everyday art that you can touch and take away and bringing artists into conversation with visitors - that is the core of these events.

On Mother's Day, potters, painters, designers and many other creative people will transform Ludwig-Beck-Platz in Lichterfelde West around the striking Wappenbrunnen fountain into a lively art mile.

Their works are as diverse as the materials from which they are made: Wood, textiles, ceramics, glass, paper or soapstone. Beautifully shaped hats, decorative home accessories, hand-flattering everyday objects or fine jewelry are created on site. Practical and beautiful, surprisingly elegant or tongue-in-cheek playful - what all the pieces have in common is their unmistakable originality.

Berlin hat makers C & G Klein from HatArt also get to the heart of the matter with humor - in the style of the legendary "old men" from the TV series The Muppet Show:

Shaded in spring

HatArt by C & G Klein will be present at all 15 Family & Friends arts and crafts, wine, Advent and Christmas markets this year, presenting their unusual headwear, hats and textile accessories in person, often with unusual shapes and natural fabrics: e.g. felt hats, woolly hats and decorative headbands finished with small accents such as leather straps or embroidery. "Being put on and exceptionally well protected" is clearly the motto here!

Beautiful things made from recycled glass - sustainable decoration for indoors and outdoors with luminosity

The "bottle boy" Stefan makes lanterns from recycled glass bottles - for hanging or standing - as well as drinking glasses from former vodka, whisky or seltzer bottles. His motto: "Many bottles are too beautiful for the glass container. Upcycling gives them a second life. The range is complemented by crown cap magnets and wallets made from old Tetrapaks.

Leather

Jandee from Berlin is also a very old and popular acquaintance at the Family & Friends markets. For decades, he has been making clever leather wallets at the Family & Friends markets that are specially designed for right- or left-handed people. The independent cultural publisher Kadmos from Berlin-Moabit is also a regular guest at the Family & Friends markets. Its publications are characterized by intellectual depth and creative care. Books, limited editions or artistic prints with artistic features, as well as the special artist's calendar "Berlin Animals" with species plates and book plus matching printed accessories, are all part of the range. He also wants to bring along a memo game "Big City Animals" and "Coastal Animals", postcard calendars on various themes and jute bags.

Simple and timeless

Wara Design makes colorful pieces of jewelry and accessories with a powerful aesthetic. Necklaces, bracelets and earrings made of silver, brass and copper that make a statement - ideal for customers who appreciate individual design. The sustainable jewelry line is designed and produced by Caroline Daoulas, a French silversmith. She loves to create metal pieces that radiate simple elegance with their timeless shape.

Glass bead games ...

Peggy Hildebrandt from HildeGold in Berlin-Friedrichshagen presents handmade jewelry and glass bead design. She uses high-quality Japanese Miyuki glass beads to create jewelry and crocheted bags. The manufactory also offers workshops and DIY kits.

Claudia Scholz and Stefan Piltz founded the Family & Friends association almost two decades ago. With their neighborhood festivals, they want to turn Ludwig-Beck-Platz into a place for art, enjoyment and encounters.

Their aim is to bring people from the neighborhood together and create a cultural, culinary and artisanal experience. Anyone who talks to the winegrowers, artists and producers quickly realizes that there is a personal story behind every work of art and every bottle of wine.
